Making a Splash with Pool Fences

Take advantage of the last couple weeks before pool season to install a pool fence!

Spring is upon us, and that means pool season isn’t far behind. While you’re waiting for the weather to jump up another few degrees before you open up the pool for the spring and summer, it’s a good time to assess things you might need to accompany your pool. Cleaning supplies, toys for the kids, fences…. What’s that you say about fences? Why of course pool fences are great for safety, privacy, and aesthetics! Let us tell you all about them. We insist.

Pool Fences for Safety

Fences are hugely important for the safety of those around your pool, particularly young children. Approximately 1,000 children drown in residential pools every year, and pool experts estimate that around 70% of those accidents could have been avoided if there had been a proper pool fence on the premises. In fact, Virginia Beach pool regulations insist that residential swimming pools be surrounded by a fence at least four feet tall. Any type of fence from wood to vinyl to aluminum will prevent wandering children (and adults and pets) from accidentally falling into an uncovered pool.

Pool Fences for Privacy

The best part of a private pool is just that — the “private” part. When you’re enjoying a nice swim or a relaxing sunbath, the last thing you want is for neighbors and passers-by to be able to peer into your yard to see you in your swimsuit. A wooden privacy fence will help keep prying eyes away from your peaceful outdoor living space.

Pool Fences for Aesthetics

Last but not least, residential pool fences can do a lot for your backyard design. Whether it’s a wood fence that blends into its natural wooded surroundings or an ornamental aluminum fence that’s, well, ornamental, there are plenty of ways to incorporate a pool fence into your decorative plans. As far as maintenance goes, vinyl is the most waterproof and one of the easiest to clean. On the other side of that coin, iron can rust with repeated exposure to splashing pool water, so that may not be your best choice here.

Ultimately, it’s hard to go wrong with any type of fence around your pool. It’s just a matter of knowing what else you’d like to get out of it. Where there’s a pool, there should be a fence. It’s that simple.
