Getting More Out of Your Garden Fence

Getting More Out of Your Garden Fence

Making it a point of pride in your landscape means making sure that everyone can admire it while the rabbits and deer and squirrels can’t tiptoe through the tulips. Here’s how to get even more out of your garden fence.

Fences are versatile, and nowhere is that more evident than in your garden. But now that spring is here, and summer will be along shortly, you will want to protect and nurture your garden. Making it a point of pride in your landscape means making sure that everyone can admire it while the rabbits and deer and squirrels can’t tiptoe through the tulips. Here’s how to get even more out of your garden fence.

Add Some Art

Sure, you can use your garden to mark the bounds of your yard. Why not try making it a museum, too? The school year is coming to an end, and you want to keep your kids busy. Let them draw some new art, especially if they have a talent you want to encourage. Have them draw something every day and then come together as a family to vote on the pieces everyone likes the most. Instead of displaying it on the fridge, go outside and hang it on the fence instead! Depending on the type of fence you have, you can also have the kids work on painting a mural on it. Acrylic paint works best on wooden walls and epoxy works for vinyl; talk to your HOA and make sure you have their permission first.

Garden Differently

Most gardens stretch out across the ground; even so, climbing plants can help make your fence look more attractive. The key is not to let them grow out of control. Growing the vines and other plants up and down can make a huge difference, though. Nasturtiums, passion flowers, beans, and cucamelons can all help boost your curb appeal and make your garden a unique place to be. You also get plenty of shade and privacy for spending time outside without being bothered by your neighbors if you don’t want to interact with them. Plus, fruits and veggies will be much easier to harvest when it’s time to pick them.

Install Outdoor Lighting

One last trick is to add some outdoor lighting. Try using some solar lamps to light the way after dark. You can also use fairy lights, especially if you have a special occasion coming up later this season.
