Step Up Your Home’s Safety by Using a Security Fence

Before installing any type of security fence, be sure to speak to your neighbors and HOA representatives.

Keeping your home and family safe has to start somewhere. Why not invest in some better fencing materials?  Many homeowners choose their fence based on idealized notions of what their little slice of land should look like, but sometimes, that’s just not practical. It all comes down to the area where you live, and what exactly you want or need the fence to do; so if you’re confused, just read on to learn more!

Security Fences Minimize Convenient Hiding Spots

Where do you want to place the fence? In general, people want to secure their backyard. It’s much easier to monitor the front or the sides of your yard, but how often do you think about the backyard? It’s a notable vulnerability that you should do everything you can to rectify. While a see-through perimeter fence might not be the best idea for keeping your dog from barking at everything that moves, at least you’ll have some peace of mind.

They’re Hard to Climb

Before installing any type of security fence, be sure to speak to your neighbors and HOA representatives. Your new fence should be at least eight feet tall, which might run afoul of neighborhood regulations. Avoid using horizontal bars that could be taken advantage of as handholds or footholds. Lastly, consider adding spiked or pointed finials as another deterrent to any potential intruders.

It’s Difficult to Get Around Them

Most of the time, unwanted visitors will attempt to scale your fence or think they are being clever by digging through the ground underneath them. Thus, you should assure that your security fence is hard to penetrate or otherwise get around. Concrete can make it harder to dig up the ground, while you may also want to choose a tougher fence; chain-link is vulnerable to cutting. Finally, include heavy-duty gates that are double-padlocked. If you would use them to secure your pool, then why not extend its protection around your entire home?

Consider Metal or Wire Mesh

Metal and wire mesh also make for effective security measures. Metal fences provide plenty of style and substance, are low-profile, and most importantly, easy to take care of when needed. Wire fences are similar to chain-link, but cannot be climbed over or cut through as easily.

Shorter Fences Can Be Barriers

Sometimes, one fence won’t be enough to get the job done. That’s using more than can be what your yard needs. Shorter fences can be used as barriers – so turn your yard into an obstacle course!
