Tips for Repairing Your Vinyl Fence

Tips for Repairing Your Vinyl Fence

If you already have a vinyl fence on your property, then you are probably already familiar with their benefits.

If you already have a vinyl fence on your property, then you are probably already familiar with their benefits. For example, vinyl fences are supremely easy to take care of, and aren’t as needy or demanding as some other fence materials might be. So if you’re wondering what it takes to repair your vinyl fence, you’re in luck. Here are some pointers for doing just that.

Dealing with Displaced Posts

When the soil around your vinyl fence and underneath freezes, it will eventually thaw. However, this freeze/thaw cycle isn’t as simple as a game of laser tag. The frost-covered soil might try to shove your fence posts out of position. When your fence posts are no longer secure, they can’t hold up your vinyl fence as well as they once did. The solution to this issue is to push the posts back in, but first, you’ll want to dig deeper into the ground. Once you’re below the frost line, you should be golden. Then again, in winter weather, this may be trickier than it sounds.

Curing the Cracks

Another problem you might encounter is quite common: cracking. Whenever you find any cracks forming on your vinyl fence, you will just need to uproot the section that is damaged and replace it. Unfortunately, there are no quick and easy aesthetic fixes for this problem.

Restoring the Gates

Your vinyl fence might also be responsible for supporting the weight of a gate. Gates are a fantastic idea to add to vinyl fences since they make it easier to get in and out of your property – say, reaching your driveway from your backyard, for instance. Re-tighten the hinges and see if that makes a difference. But you might need to add a wheel. Wheels are small upgrades that can relieve some of the pressure on your gate hinges and allow it to swing more smoothly.

Putting On Your Fence Cap

Sometimes your fence post cap will fall off. This situation isn’t surprising, given the effects of wind, rain, and snow. There is a special glue, called PVC glue, that can reconnect the fence cap where regular super glue might not get the job done.
