What is the Best Fence for my Dog?

pet fenceMost people consider their pets to be family and we all like to keep our families safe. Pets need a good place to roam around outdoors, but you need to know that they’re not going to be able to get out and run off chasing a squirrel halfway across the neighborhood. Choosing a fence for your Virginia Beach pet can be a challenge. You need the fence to look nice so that your home doesn’t lose curb appeal, but you also need to make sure that the fence is functional enough to do its job. Finding the happy medium can be difficult. We’ve put together a list of some of the best fences for keeping Scruffy in and still maintaining a nice aesthetic appeal.

  • Wood Picket Fences – Depending on the breed of dog that you have, the fence might have to be taller than the typical “white picket fence” you’re thinking of. Regardless, you can grow flowers and vines around these for more aesthetic appeal and they’ll do a good job of keeping your dog in the fenced area.
  • Chain Link Fences – Though these aren’t great for pools, they do work really well for dogs. Your dog is very unlikely to be able to climb a chain link fence. One of the problems that most people have with chain link is that they think it’s unattractive – this doesn’t have to be the case. Chain link fences can add to the aesthetic rather than detracting from it. Try running fabric through the chain link or solely building a dog run out of it.
  • Ornamental Aluminum Fences – This one also depends on how big your dog is. Most ornamental aluminum fences aren’t very tall (though you can always choose to have them built taller than usual). When aesthetic is important for your home or the Home Owner’s Association insists upon something that looks really nice, ornamental aluminum is a good option. It looks like wrought iron without the extra cost and maintenance.
  • PVC Vinyl Fencing – If you want wood without the maintenance, vinyl is your best bet. It’s very durable and easy to clean, which can come in handy if Scruffy decides to relieve himself on the fence instead of in the grass. You can commission vinyl to look just about any way you want. You can even get a faux wood look from it!
